IESA hails govt's move to ease visa application process for PLI-businesses

Industry body India Energy Storage Alliance on Friday hailed the government's move to create a portal for smoother business visa applications for foreign experts engaged by Indian companies under production-linked incentive scheme and associated industries. Multiple-entry business visa (non-extendable) will be facilitated for six months to foreign subject matter specialists/engineers/ technical people being engaged by Indian companies under the PLI scheme or PLIassociated industries by the approval of the respective line ministry, a statement by India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) stated. According to the statement, this will apply to personnel required for installation and commissioning, quality check & essential maintenance, production, IT & DRP ramp-up, training, supply chain development for empanelling vendors, plant design & bring-up, and senior management & executive. In-flight Engagement and Connectivity (IFEC) solutions provider Panasonic Avionics on Wednesday opened a new software design and development facility in Pune. The new facility, inaugurated by the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, is the first in the country by Panasonic Avionics Corporation dedicated to supporting the development and delivery of IFEC solutions. The facility employs over 200 skilled engineers in the beginning with growth plans in place to scale it up further to support the increasing demand from airlines for these solutions, the company said. Aviation firms plan own training schools to ensure supply of talent

While Air India is starting its own pilot training school, the GMR group that owns the country's largest airframe maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) company, GMR Aero Technic, has invested ?50 crore to start its own school for engineers. "To train such large numbers of engineers, GMR Aero Technic has entered the skill development segment with the GMR School of Aviation," Ashok Gopinath, president and accountable manager of GMR Aero Technic, said. The group also owns the Delhi, Hyderabad and Goa airports.
