Banks may get power to auction ships in case of loan defaults
The government is considering amending the SARFAESI Act, 2002, to allow banks to hold security interest in shipping vessels, removing special exemptions for fishing vessels. This change aims to fast-track loan recovery processes and address ambiguities that delay recoveries. Other debt recovery laws are also under review for quicker resolution of non-performing loans.

Govt aims to boost fishery sector by taking exports to Rs 1 trn per year
Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh on Wednesday said the government is focusing on increasing annual seafood exports to Rs 1 lakh crore from around Rs 60,000 crore last fiscal and will also take measures to strengthen the foundation of the fishery sector over the next five years. Singh, who is Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, was addressing an event to mark the 4th Anniversary of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojna (PMMSY) here. He also launched Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojna, and released the standard operating procedure on production & processing clusters in the fisheries sector. The minister noted that the fishery sector, which provides livelihood for more than 3 crore fishers and fish farmers, did not get due attention since independence. HC asks for Centre's stand on plea over 'misbranding' of Patanjali product
The Delhi High Court on Friday sought the Centre's stand on a petition seeking action against the alleged misbranding of Patanjali's "Divya Dant Manjan" as a vegetarian product. The petitioner's counsel claimed that though the dental care product was being sold with a "green dot", symbolising that it was a vegetarian commodity, it contains fish extract, a non-vegetarian ingredient. Justice Sanjeev Narula issued notice to the Centre, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) as well as Patanjali, Divya Pharmacy, Yoga guru Ramdev and other related parties on the petition by lawyer Yatin Sharma. The law does not mandate declaration of a "drug" as vegetarian or non-vegetarian but the packaging of "Divya Dant Manjan" wrongly carries a "green dot", which qualifies as "misbranding" under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, the petitioner's counsel argued.
